DRIFTR
Drift! Shoot!
That's it… basically… But what else do you need?
Controls:
- Use mouse to turn,
- Click to shoot!
As there is currently no tutorial for the game, here is a short explanation for the gameplay:
- You increase your score by destroying turrets. Shoot them or drift through them for extra style points!
- Multiplier affect how many points you get for destroying a turret. Earn multiplier by destroying turrets or flying really close to obstacles;
- Multiplier drops to one if you decide to slow down. This game is all about speed!
- Turrets come in different colours with unique projectiles. Red are fast, Purple can shoot through obstacles. And there are more for you to find and explore on your own!
- After 8 turrets a boss appears! Follow the white dot next to your ship to find the boss.
I really wanted to make a game that would scratch that itch. You know the one. The feeling of a perfectly entered turn, or a sniper riffle headshot in a fps game. Of a perfectly executed combo attack. Of one box fitting perfectly into another. You get the idea.
Which is why I spent two days to make DRIFTR. Actually, I've been trying to create a game like driftr for many years, and went through three or four iterations. shoot' em up, card game, strategy. They were fun, but something was lacking. I think DRIFTR is what I was looking for. It has been my favourite game ever since it started to work, and I have been playing in on and off for almost two years.
So I decided to share it, maybe somebody will enjoy it as much as I do.

I abolutely love the feel of this game, though it is still a bit too tricky to get used to.
I think there are 3 main issues with this version
1. The randomly generated area is just not friendly to traverse in at all, there's endless impossible appearing situations because of misfortunate sphere placement
2. the turrets can just shoot you while you are in an arc that leaves you no escape route
3. It is really hard to land shots and get good drifts. I get that is a core part of such a game but I think there could be some tweaks to the character movement and aim to make it a little easier to get to a satisfying point
I think a possible improvement could be gained by giving the player a short slowdown ability, I found the slowdown given by shooting turrets helped a ton when trying to style. So I though it could be extremely cool if you had the ability to just activate that when you notice an opportunity that is too hard for you (though of course non-slow downed shots should yield more points).
Anyways I think I'll keep a tab for this game open, seems like the kinda game I gotta get better at.
Oh wow, thank you for your kind words! It's still a game I open every now and then when I have some time to kill listening to podcasts.
Totally agree with your points, if I remember correctly I even made an attempt to clean generated maps from really unfair placements, but I guess it could use more work.
As for the slowdown ability suggestion – I was also thinking in a similar direction, but didn't quite have time to experiment with it. If I ever get back to working on the project I'll keep your suggestion in mind!
Thank you for playing and leaving a message, it really made my day!
